Crawford County Court of Common Pleas has an immediate opening for an Official Court Reporter. The position involves technical work reporting and transcribing verbatim testimony in a variety of court proceedings.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required
  • Graduation from an accredited court reporter course is required
  • Demonstrated proficiency needed to meet Pa Supreme Court requirements for speed, accuracy and audible clarity is required
  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year of job-related experience is desired

Required Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

  • Ability to use a stenographic machine and computer software to produce accurate transcripts
  • Possess excellent listening skills

Full-time Official Court Reporter - Bucks County Court of Common Pleas

Bucks County is accepting applications for a June opening for an Official Court Reporter in the Court of Common Pleas in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.  This is a full-time, 40-hours per week position with full benefits, including medical, dental, paid vacation, sick leave, 15 paid holidays, participation in the County of Bucks’ pension program, and free parking in the County’s garage . Compensation begins at $46.05 per hour, as well as transcript income.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Record verbatim testimony in courtroom proceedings using a stenotype machine and computer-aided transcription software.  Accurately transcribe verbatim testimony of civil, criminal, orphans’ court and other miscellaneous proceedings and prepare a complete and accurate transcript of such proceedings as requested.

  • Must possess realtime writing capability.  The reporter is required to be on the most-current version of editing software to enable setting up a realtime session in the courtroom and providing the same to the Court.
  • Certify the accuracy of transcriptions.
  • Be capable, when called upon, to read from stenographic notes.
  • File and answer correspondence in a timely fashion using Microsoft Word.
  • Produce accurate and timely reports to Chief Court Reporter.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, files, and schedules for all court proceedings and be able to produce them when called upon to do so.  Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • A minimum of a High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited court reporting school with certificate/degree that applicant takes verbatim dictation at 180 wpm (literary); 200 wpm (jury charge); and 225 wpm (Q & A). ** Preference given to candidates with RPR and CRR certifications.  In-house testing is required of all candidates.
  • Excellent English, grammar and punctuation skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
  • Minimum of two years court-reporting experience including realtime.
  • Reporter to own computer-aided stenotype machine, laptop computer and CAT software.  Must maintain all equipment in excellent working order and keep said equipment and software up to date during tenure of employment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and others encountered during the course of work.

Official Court Reporters - Berks County Courthouse

Court Reporter and Senior Court Reporter exams  - New York State

Beginning March 24, 2023, the New York State Unified Court System will start accepting applications for an open-competitive examination for Court Reporter (#45-821) and an open-competitive examination for Senior Court Reporter (#45-822). The tests are scheduled for May 6, 2023 and May 20, 2023 for Court Reporter and Senior Court Reporter respectively. The deadline for submitting completed applications online is April 23, 2023. Court Reporter - Mercer County

Mercer County has an opening for a Court Reporter. This is a full-time position, 35 hours per week.  The salary range is $33,142.20 to a top end of $47,411.00.  Additional income is earned by processing court orders and transcripts.  Starting salary is dependent upon experience.  There is a comprehensive benefit package included.  An RPR status is preferred, but not required.  Mercer County pays for required continuing education as well as association memberships. A Steno writer, laptop, and Case CATalyst software are also provided by Mercer County.
