Reading, Pennsylvania, has immediate openings for Official Court Reporters in the Court of Common Pleas.  Duties include stenographically recording criminal/civil trials and proceedings as well as all other matters heard before the Court.  This 35-hour-per-week union position has a starting salary of $52,000 (with increases after 6 months and 2 years of successful employment) up to $74,000, depending on experience.  Additional income is earned by producing verbatim transcripts.  The position includes full benefits including medical insurance and prescriptions, vision/dental, paid vacation, personal time, sick leave, holidays, and participation in the County of Berks' pension program.  Newly- graduated court reporting students are welcome!  A Luminex writer, Eclipse software, and all other equipment is provided as well as reimbursement of professional association fees and seminar registration fees to complete continuing education requirements.  Please apply https://www.countyofberks.com/courtreporter or contact [email protected] for information

Court Reporter - Mercer County, PA

Mercer County has an opening for a Court Reporter. This is a full-time position, 35 hours per week.  The salary range is $33,142.20 to a top end of $47,411.00.  Additional income is earned by processing court orders and transcripts.  Starting salary is dependent upon experience.  There is a comprehensive benefit package included.  An RPR status is preferred, but not required.  Mercer County pays for required continuing education as well as association memberships. A Steno writer, laptop, and Case CATalyst software are also provided by Mercer County.

Court Reporter - Union County, PA

Union County Courthouse, 17th Judicial District - The purpose of this position is to prepare verbatim records of all Court proceedings, to transcribe Court orders, and prepare transcripts. The work is performed under the direction of the Judge.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe all Court proceedings verbatim
  • Complete transcripts upon request in a timely manner in accordance with Pennsylvania State Rule 4000 and local rules regarding transcripts and business processes
  • Complete timely Court orders after proceedings
  • Provide real-time when asked
  • Ability to read back notes when called upon
  • Invoice Departments and/or attorneys appropriately for transcripts
  • Monthly invoice for Court orders
  • Keep/maintain accurate records as far as orders, billing, and transcripts
  • Upload weekly, if not daily, notes and rough draft transcripts to external hard drive
  • Set-up PolyCom and Zoom/Owl equipment when needed for video conferencing hearings
  • Must maintain computer-aided stenotype machine and software in excellent working order and keep said equipment and software up-to-date during tenure of employment
  • Swear in witnesses and interpreters as needed
  • Let Judge or Judge's Administrative Assistant know when all parties are ready for proceedings in the courtroom

Minimum Training and Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited Court Reporting school with certificate/degree that applicant takes verbatim dictation at 180 wpm (literary); 200 wpm (jury charge); and 225 wpm (Q&A). **Preference given to candidates with RPR certification
  • Excellent English, grammar, and punctuation skills
  • Possess a working understanding of legal, medical, and technical terminology
  • Possess excellent listening skills
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and work independently to do so
  • Possess excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with the Judge, Court Administrator, Judge’s Administrative Assistant, all Court personnel, attorneys, litigants, and the public

Starting annual income is $47,000-$50,000 per year, in addition to wages for orders and transcripts. Reimbursement for NCRA and PCRA membership dues and yearly PCRA conference fees. RPR not required to begin employment but must complete the online skills test within three (3) months and the written knowledge test within 12 months. Annual salary will be based on experience and certification(s).
