Court Reporter-Trainee – State of New York DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK: Under direct supervision of a supervisory court reporter and the general supervision of other court managers, Court Reporter-Trainees serve a one-year traineeship during which time they are responsible for verbatim recording and transcribing testimony in formal and informal court settings such as conferences, calendar calls, arraignments, and certain hearings. They also perform back office and courtroom clerical tasks such as processing forms related to case proceedings. Court Reporter-Trainees receive on-the-job instruction in all aspects of the court reporting function, are given progressively complex assignments designed to develop their recording skill, and at the end of the one-year traineeship, successful candidates will be promoted to Court Reporter (JG-24). Court Reporter-Trainees may be assigned to work in other courts during emergencies or to record and transcribe administrative hearings. Senior Court Reporter – State of New York DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK: Senior Court Reporters are responsible for verbatim recording and transcribing testimony in formal and informal court settings such as trials, conferences, calendar calls, arraignments, and hearings. Senior Court Reporters work in the Court of Claims, the Supreme Court, and those County Courts with 2 or more full-time County Court Judges or one full-time County Court Judge and combined annual filings of indictments and Supreme Court civil actions exceeding 650. They may also be assigned to record and transcribe administrative hearings or to work in other courts during emergencies or in a difficult or protracted proceeding. They may also perform courtroom clerical duties related to the matters before the court and backoffice clerical tasks and other related duties. Duties include stenographically recording criminal/civil trials and proceedings as well as all other matters heard before the Court. This 35-hour-per-week union position has a salary based on experience with increases after 6 months and 2 years of successful employment up to $75,400 with additional income earned by producing verbatim transcripts. Court Technologist / Administrative Assistant to the President Judge - Huntingdon County The Huntingdon County Court of Common Pleas is seeking a qualified Court Technologist to support courtroom operations through digital recording, transcript management, and courtroom technology support. This position also serves as a structured developmental pathway to Certified Court Reporter. The successful candidate will be required to obtain certification as a Court Reporter within thirty-six (36) months of the date of hire. During the certification period, the employee will perform Court Technologist duties and may assist with transcription and court reporting functions as permitted.
