A word from District 6 Director Cheryl Hansberry:

Greetings, fellow and sustaining new members,

I hope you all have a community of support that you are engaged in to help you keep your sanity during the COVID-19 response.

Now, more than ever, it is important that we stay engaged in what is happening in the world of reporting.  We at PCRA want your input on how we can help you.  All we ask in return is for your support of us – as a member, as a volunteer, as an ambassador for our profession.

We will have our 2020 District 6 meeting on April 8, 2020, at 6:30, via Zoom video conferencing.  As previously indicated, we will be electing a NEW District 6 Director.  It has truly been my privilege to serve you in this capacity, and I look forward to being a touchstone to the Director you elect to take my place.

We often hear it said, “This is an exciting time.”  In my thinking, that phrase describes perfectly where reporters, captioners, and CART writers are finding themselves.  The sacrifices we’re making as a nation are accelerating development of workarounds to keep our businesses, courts, and educational systems moving forward.  Don’t you want to be a voice shaping your future?  Shouldn’t we all want to take the very best of what we’re experiencing now and build upon it for the future?

PCRA sought and was granted a temporary waiver of the requirement of personal presence when swearing witnesses.  Did you consider that a significant win for Pennsylvania’s freelancers?  Then I ask you this question: What would YOU do to change that temporary waiver to a permanent exemption?  I don’t want you to answer me.  I want you to volunteer your time and your talents to your state association and help make it happen.

Please join me via Zoom on April 8, 2020, at 6:30 to participate in District 6’s annual meeting.  If you have anything you want to put on the agenda, send me an email.  All reporters are invited to attend and participate, but only those in good standing are permitted to make motions and vote.
